Palm
   Basée en Californie, la société Palm lance en mars 1996 le premier PDA (personal digital assistant), dénommé Palm Pilot, qui utilise le système d’exploitation Palm OS. Palm vend 23 millions de machines entre 1996 et 2002. En 2002, malgré la concurrence, Palm est toujours le leader du marché (36,8% des machines vendues), suivi par Hewlett-Packard (13,5%), Sony (11%), Handspring (5,8%), Toshiba (3,7%) et Casio (3,3%). Les systèmes d’exploitation utilisés sont essentiellement le Palm OS (pour 55% des machines) et le Pocket PC (pour 25,7% des machines). La division PalmSource est plus précisément en charge des logiciels. Le logiciel de lecture est le Palm Reader, utilisable sur assistant personnel en mars 2001 puis sur ordinateur en juillet 2002.
